Studies on reception in Indian literatures to prominent Indian writers is an area in which the Department of MIL & LS, University of Delhi and Delhi Comparatists have been engaged with for a long time. Starting from the East-West encounters and Shakespeare studies, receptions to Bankimchandra and Tagore in Indian literatures are some of the studies that have been undertaken in this area. This year being the centenary of the composition of Kazi Nazrul Islam’s famous poem Bidrohi, Delhi Comparatists, in collaboration with the Nazrul Centre for Cultural Studies, Kazi Nazrul University, West Bengal and Department of MIL & LS have undertaken a project on Nazrul. The project consists of two parts. The first one is to prepare a database of reception to Nazrul in Indian literatures and the first phase of the project is already in progress and covers Assamese, Hindi, Marathi, Odia and Tamil. The second part consists of translation of Nazrul’s Bidrohi into all Indian languages that have a script that amounts to as many as one hundred translations.
